Democrats Protest Glenn Beck Rally Spot but Support Ground Zero Mosque?

“The intellectual dishonesty of Democrats is simply breathtaking. To show exactly how out of whack Democrat’s ideology is, they are protesting the site and date of a Glenn Beck rally over his perceived “insensitivity” but on the other hand seem wholly unbothered by the mosque planned on being built at Ground Zero.

Purported civil rights leaders on the Democrat side of the aisle are all upset over the fact that Glenn Beck has planned a rally to be held in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. 47 years to the day after Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

Beck said that he has no plans on turning his rally into a partisan political rally but intends it to be a rally to, “honor the troops, unite the American people under the principles of integrity and truth, and make a pledge to restore honor within ourselves and our country.” Beck further says that the date was not a conscious choice but just fit his schedule.”

“John Galt is the mysterious hero lurking in the background in Ayn Rand’s infamous novel, Atlas Shrugged. He is the industrialist who went into hiding and led a strike of producers fed up with the physical and moral encroachment from a government of moral supremacists who rationalized theft with childish notions of fairness but no conception of the actual production of wealth. That synopsis should also explain why Atlas Shrugged, first published in 1957, is having a very strong resurgence in popularity.

I meet with two different groups of independent business owners focused in the southeast and their perception of current business conditions is almost unanimous. They are angry. They face conflicting and unclear regulations, and a near certainty of increasing taxes.

Researchers ‘stretch’ a lackluster material into a possible electronics revolution

ITHACA, N.Y. — “It’s the Clark Kent of oxide compounds, and – on its own – it is pretty boring. But slice europium titanate nanometers thin and physically stretch it, and then it takes on super hero-like properties that could revolutionize electronics, according to new Cornell research. (Nature, Aug. 19, 2010.)

Researchers report that thin films of europium titanate become both ferroelectric (electrically polarized) and ferromagnetic (exhibiting a permanent magnetic field) when stretched across a substrate of dysprosium scandate, another type of oxide. The best simultaneously ferroelectric, ferromagnetic material to date pales in comparison by a factor of 1,000.

Simultaneous ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism is rare in nature and coveted by electronics visionaries. A material with this magical combination could form the basis for low-power, highly sensitive magnetic memory, magnetic sensors or highly tunable microwave devices.

The search for ferromagnetic ferroelectrics dates back to 1966, when the first such compound – a nickel boracite – was discovered. Since then, scientists have found a few additional ferromagnetic ferroelectrics, but none stronger than the nickel compound – that is, until now.”

“One of the foremost GOP opponents of the proposed Lower Manhattan mosque said Wednesday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s comments on the topic were a “threat” to 9/11 families who don’t want it built.

“I only see it as a threat by the speaker to intimidate people who are speaking out against the location of the mosque. I can take care of myself, but I’m thinking of the families — the family members … I mean, these are people whose hearts have been broken by Sept. 11. The wound has now been torn open,” Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) said in an interview with Fox News. “Are they going to have to face an investigation by Speaker Nancy Pelosi somehow implying that they’re part of a conspiracy?”

Pelosi (D-Calif.) gave an interview Tuesday in which she expressed hope that the funding sources of those opposing the mosque would be looked into, but did not specify how. Republicans have seized on Pelosi’s remarks since then, part of a growing political firestorm over the construction of the center.

“There is no question that there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some, and I join those who have called for looking into, how is this opposition into the mosque being funded?” she asked.

Nearly 80% of Gulf spill oil still in water: Experts

    The Times of India ^ | 18 August, 2010 | AFP

Posted on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 3:11:56 PM by James C. Bennett

WASHINGTON: “Nearly 80 per cent of the oil spilled from a BP well in the Gulf of Mexico is still in the gulf, US scientists have estimated, challenging a more optimistic assessment by the US government earlier in the month.

In its August 4 report, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration found that half the 4.9 million barrels of oil spilled by the April 20 blowout had been evaporated, burned, skimmed or dispersed.

A team of five scientists from the University of Georgia did their own analysis of the government data and came to a different conclusion.

“We just re-analysed this report…and then we calculated how much oil is still likely to be out there and that is how we came up to 70 to 79 per cent that must be out there,” Charles Hopkinson, a marine scientist at the University of Georgia said yesterday.

“One major misconception is that oil that has dissolved into water is gone and therefore, harmless,” he said.

“The oil is still out there and it will likely take years to completely degrade. We are still far from a complete understanding of what its impacts are,” he said.”

    The Public Employee Union Scam

“Unlike private sector unions, the sheer number of workers represented is not the linchpin of [the public sector unions] influence. Private sector unions have a natural adversary in the owners of the companies with whom they negotiate. But public sector unions have no such natural counterweight. They are a classic case of “client politics,” where an interest group’s concentrated efforts to secure rewards impose diffused costs on the mass of unorganized taxpayers.

A conflict of interest would be as follows: First, government union elects politician by funding their campaign and organizing a massive get-out-the-vote drive; second, politician supports employee pay increases, generous pensions and condition of employment; third, union takes dues (read: taxpayer money) and starts the cycle all over again for selected politician.

At both the state and national level, public-sector union support for many Democrats has been well documented. One of the largest public sector unions in the country, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has given over $40 million to politicians since 1990; with more than 98 percent of that going to Democrats. The SEIU, AFL-CIO and United Steel Workers have all promised big help in the coming election. In return, the Democratic Party has voted nearly lockstep with these union’s demands.

American Atheists Inc., a Texas-based group that first filed suit on the matter in 2005. The atheist organization argued that the 12-foot-high crosses, along state highways, are religious symbols that should be removed because their being on public land is a violation of the First Amendment, which prohibits government establishment of religion.

Mormon Media Observer: What about these new Mormon ads?

The campaign includes ads on television, radio, billboards, bus platforms and the interior of transit vehicles. In the international English-speaking world the campaign has a digital and social media reach through Internet ads, Facebook and YouTube. As part of the campaign, church members are invited to share their profile on the mormon.org website.

The Mormon Media Observer met with Scott Swofford, director of media for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at church headquarters to discuss the campaign. What follows are excerpts from the interview.

MMO: These ads have a very basic message. “This is my life, this is who I am and I am a Mormon.” What message are you trying to help people understand with that kind of message?

Swofford: Well, you can go on and on all day long trying to define yourself in the minds of the public or you can, in fact, connect them to members of the church. When you do that you see the incredible diversity, the various walks of life that Latter-day Saints are involved in, and they see that Mormon thinking can be diverse as it needs to be to live their life. Yet surprisingly, if you read the 3,000 Mormon.org profiles, you will find those people are very unified in the understanding of what they believe. It is shocking. I expected responses to be all over the place, and they are not. People in their own words are articulating in their beliefs better than perhaps we could.

Petraeus: Here’s My Afghan Redeployment Strategy

08-18-2010 • Spencer Acherman via WIRED

KABUL, Afghanistan – “General David Petraeus isn’t planning to wake up one morning after July 2011 and order his troops out of Afghanistan’s provinces all at once. Instead, his idea is to slowly and deliberately remove small units, district by district, in an intricate process he describes as “thinning out.”

“You can reduce your forces. But you thin out,” Petraeus tells Danger Room in an interview from his professorial Kabul office. “You don’t just hand over. The whole unit doesn’t leave.”

At least not in the early stages after the Obama administration’s announced date to start a withdrawal. And some of those troops won’t come home right away: They’ll be “reinvested” at first in parts of the country where security remains dicey.

For months, Petraeus has been questioned about how quickly the U.S. will remove its troops from Afghanistan after July 2011. He’s heard lawmakers and pundits parse everything he says for the tiniest iota’s worth of difference with President Obama. It’s “premature” to speculate what will happen eleven months from now, Petraeus says. Once again, he declares support for the Obama policy of beginning a “conditions-based” drawdown next summer.

But for perhaps the first time, Petraeus opens up, just a bit, about his thinking for how to send troops home, and in what size.

A few combat brigades of between 3,000 and 5,000 troops, like those Obama ordered to Afghanistan last winter, may indeed come back to America. But he is maintaining the mantra that withdrawals next year, beyond the 30,000 surge troops, will depend on how the security picture looks. Petraeus says the recommendations will come from “those who know it best” — his subordinate commanders.”

So what’s the rush? This weekend Russia will begin to load uranium fuel into the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the first stage in preparing it for launch. This fact has nothing to do with any nominal threat posed by Iran, even rhetorically, as the plant is designed purely for energy generation.

But Bushehr isn’t just a nuclear power plant, it is also a city of nearly 200,000 people along the Persian Gulf, and surrounded by a comparatively populous province along the coast.”

Free Republic Rocks Nancy Pelosi’s World With Scoop on Threat to 9/11 Mosque Opponents

    Wednesday, August 18, 2010 | Kristinn

Posted on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 10:44:12 PM by kristinn

“Free Republic rocked Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) world by breaking the story about her menacing comments calling for the investigation of critics of the location of the Cordoba House mosque planned for the neighborhood of the World Trade Center site of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York City.

Two San Francisco media outlets reported on Pelosi’s press conference where she made the remarks, but neither one saw fit to report them. Fortunately one of those outlets, KCBS, posted an audio recording. The other, the San Francisco Chronicle, posted a video that had bad audio rendering the menacing comments inaudible.

I had posted the Chronicle article which highlighted Pelosi appearing to dodge the issue by saying it was a local zoning issue for New Yorkers to decide. Afterward I found the audio file at KCBS and listened to it. When I heard Pelosi say the things that weren’t being reported I knew this was something that was potentially explosive. So I transcribed the relevant parts, wrote up an article and posted it to Free Republic at 10:21 p.m. EDT.

Soon after the Washington Times picked up the story and from there it went to Twitter and then to other sites like Atlas Shrugged and Breitbart.

The story percolated over night in the blogosphere and on Twitter until the Washington Times report hit the Drudge Report–first as a headline and then as the lead story with a banner headline and a photo of Pelosi that stayed up most of the day.

Pelosi’s threat was reported by the major political sites like The Hill, The Washington Examiner and Politico, as well as NRO, Hot Air and Powerline. The story also dominated talk radio shows including Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.

By early afternoon when Pelosi issued a clarifying statement that reiterated her call to investigate the mosque critics, it was too late to soften the blowblack.

That didn’t stop the mainstream media from trying. The AP, AFP, the Washington Post and other mainstream media wrote their first articles about Pelosi’s comments after she released her clarification. What was missing from most of the articles though was reactions from 9/11 families and others to Pelosi’s threats.

An exception was WCBS in New York which posted a story with the scathing headline: 9/11 Families: Pelosi Has Lost Her Mind.

The Hill was nearly alone in reporting on Rep. Peter King’s (R-NY) response calling Pelosi’s comments a threat to 9/11 families.

The Hill was also virtually alone in reporting Rep. Dan Lundgren’s (R-CA) rebuke of Pelosi.

Thanks to Free Republic, millions of Americans became aware today of Pelosi’s totalitarian threat to investigate them and put her on the defensive.

I’ve posted this not to pat myself on the back or to get attaboys, but to show how valuable is Free Republic. Without a Freeper taking the time to dig a little deeper in the story, Pelosi most likely would have gotten away with her threat.

Other Freepers, like Buckhead and icwhatudo to name two, have profoundly affected the national political landscape with their posts on Free Republic.

As we approach the critical November elections, vigilant resourceful Freepers will be needed now more than ever to root out what the politicians and the mainstream media don’t want us to know.”

U.S. Alleges Fraud in New Jersey Pension Funding

    New York Times ^ | August 18, 2010 | MARY WILLIAMS WALSH

Posted on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 9:14:55 PM by reaganaut1

“Federal regulators accused the State of New Jersey of securities fraud on Wednesday for claiming it had been properly funding public workers’ pensions when it was not.

The Securities and Exchange Commission said the action was its first ever against a state, and only its second against any government over the handling of a public pension fund. The first was the city of San Diego. More may be in store; the agency announced in January that it had a special unit looking into public pension disclosures. The S.E.C. has been trying to assume more authority over municipal securities.

The commission settled its suit with New Jersey by issuing a cease-and-desist order, which the state accepted without admitting or denying the findings. No penalties were imposed.

Nor did the S.E.C.’s order name any individual state officials, nor the bond underwriters and other professionals whose job it was to vouch for the state’s financial statements. New Jersey’s largest bond underwriters during the period in question include Citigroup, J.P. Morgan Securities, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and Barclays Capital.”

Who writes this drivel for him?…

NY Times— “In road-testing his stump speech for the midterm elections, President Obama would like American voters to think of a car that has been driven into a ditch. (Take a wild guess who was at the wheel.)

“You had a group of folks who drove the economy, drove the country, drove our car into the ditch,” Mr. Obama told some 200 party faithful sipping sauvignon blanc by the pool Monday night at a Los Angeles fund-raiser.

The president may change a word here or refer to a different member of Congress there, but the basic arc of the anecdote has been the same at his stops so far this week on a three-day, five-state swing.

The White House wants to frame the November elections as a clear choice between the Democrats who have put the country on the road to recovery, anemic though it may be, and the Republicans who, in the White House view, got the country into the economic mess to begin with.

“We put on our boots and walked into the ditch — it’s muddy and hot and dusty and bugs everywhere — and we’re pushing,” Mr. Obama said of the efforts of the White House and its Democratic partners in Congress.

Here’s how the Treasury release reads:

On Thursday, Secretary Geithner will travel to New York City for a series of meetings. He has no public events on his schedule. It should be noted that by Geithner traveling to New York City for meetings, rather than having participants visit the Treasury, there will be no public log that will be released at a future date, as would be the case if meeting participants visited the Treasury.

If any NYC readers spot him, please email to me any building you may see him entering or exiting.”

“New U.S. claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly climbed to a nine-month high last week, yet another setback to the frail economic recovery.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 12,000 to a seasonally adjusted 500,000 in the week ended August 14, the highest since mid-November, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast claims slipping to 476,000 from the previously reported 484,000 the prior week, which was revised up to 488,000 in Thursday’s report.

A Labor Department official said there was nothing unusual in the state level data. The data covered the survey week for the government’s closely watched employment report for August, scheduled for release early next month.”

How the Democrats’ Year-end Tax Hike Will Affect Senior Citizens

“Starting January 1, 2011, Washington Democrats will impose a $3.8 trillion tax hike on hard-working Americans, resulting in higher taxes for every American who pays income taxes, as well as on small businesses, the engines of job creation. Unfortunately, Democrats have done nothing to disarm this ticking tax bomb, and even America’s senior citizens will be hit by this massive tax increase. Among the most significant 2011 tax increases that will affect seniors:

    * The tax rates on capital gains and dividends will rise significantly, imposing an average tax hit of $1,700 on more than half of all seniors who pay income taxes. * The 10% bracket will be eliminated, raising the lowest tax rate to 15% and costing 88 million taxpayers – including every senior who pays income taxes – an average of $503 in higher taxes in 2011. * The death tax will be reinstated with rates as high as 55%.

    Race War A’Comin’?

By John Dale Dunn, MD August 19, 2010

“I was stunned a few weeks ago when a black professional colleague told me there were all-black cruises that featured speakers such as Louis Farrakhan. Mr. Farrakhan is a Muslim black nationalist, formerly a security officer, now successor to Elijah Mohammed of the Nation of Islam. He is a racist, an anti-Semite, and an anti American to the core.

Prosperous American blacks pay good money to go on a cruise with a racist like Louis Farrakhan? Mr. Farrakhan is more hateful than other race agitators, hustlers, and shakedown artists like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. He is in concert with the Congressional Black Caucus, who slavishly support communist regimes like Cuba and anti-American projects, who are angry at Whitey, but claim to be the conscience of the Congress. I couldn’t help but think, What would be the public outcry if there were all-white cruises with David Duke, or the formation of a Congressional White Caucus? But blacks can’t be racist in the new order of things, can they?”

Hmm… Russ Carnahan’s Office Firebombed But Prosecutor’s Office Lets Suspect Go; Documents Removed From Carnahan’s Office (Video)

“The St. Louis Prosecutor’s Office released the suspect in the firebombing attack at Russ Carnahan’s office. They said they “let the suspect go because they are doing fingerprints and they want to be careful.” The man they arrested after the “firebombing” was a 50 year-old white male.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reported:

The man, whose name was not made public, was let go after the prosecutor’s office declined to immediately issue charges. The case was “taken under advisement” by the prosecutor, a step that can mean more evidence is needed before a case can be made.

And, they let him go? Really? For arson? For firebombing the office of a federal official? By the way, “firebombing” a federal candidate’s office is a federal crime too, no? This is very odd. The office, located in the back of the building. My FOX St. Louis said the room that was targeted is Carnahan’s finance office. They would not allow cameras inside, saying there is too much sensitive campaign and financial information on display. They did allow a reporter to look around. There were charred documents, some burned electronic equipment, and the walls and ceiling were gray from smoke damage.

Also, from a source today I heard that a person yesterday said he/she saw people leaving Carnahan’s office with St. Louis Bread Company bags full of papers. When asked if they were with Carnahan, they wouldn’t answer.

Today at 4 PM Russ Carnahan canceled a town hall for veterans scheduled for 7 PM tonight.

Our current President and his benefactors have tried a bold experiment: repackaging the European Socialist/Marxist concepts of the Twentieth Century and presenting an image of change that was to transcend all the problems of the past and give America the Utopia that the Free Market and the Constitution could never deliver.

Karl Marx (1818-83) and Friedrich Engels (1820-95) wrote of Marxist theory as it applies to economics, politics, and philosophy. They described and coined the term Capitalism and its modes of production. This was more than enough to serve as a syllabus to condemn hundreds of millions of people to death in the Soviet Union and China.

Until the adoption of semi-market economies, the greatest successes within both these Communist countries was their means of population control.”

David Harsanyi cuts right to the core of this divisive debate:

There are those who continue to make the facile claim that any protest over Park51 is a display in un-American intolerance and contempt for the Constitution. This position treats criticism of faith — religious institutions and symbols included — as tantamount to “bigotry.”

Prevailing opinion states that 70 percent of Americans are in opposition to this mosque. Yes, that would include Senator Harry Reid along with myself. Truly this is an extraordinary issue for a conservative to stand alongside Harry Reid. Yet some would view our stance as islamophobic and/or bigoted. In a recent interview Pelosi suggested the federal government should look into funding sources of those who oppose the mosque. Seriously, it has come down to this – let’s investigate the financial background of those in opposition? All of this adds up to a chilling assault on free speech. Long gone are the days when dissent was patriotic.”

Martial Law – Economic Collapse Looming

“The Main News refuses to dive into the meat of why America now stands at the brink, it’s future very much at risk. Benjamin continues to deliver warnings of TPTB, criminal cabal that has been working to destroy America.

Civil War in America is what TPTB have been trying to create in America. A gold backed Amero is being prepared as the replacement for the dollar. Behind the scenes a showdown is swelling that involves the Vatican, the Federal Reserve Board, the U S Military, Barry Soetoro, Hillary Clinton, the corrupt U N, the Rothschild family and other very high level people.”

The Age of Treason: 1958 Book Exposes Chemical Attack on Humanity

(Old-Thinker News) By Daniel Taylor August 19, 2010

“Dr. R. Swinburne Clymer was in many ways a man ahead of his time, and most certainly controversial. He was attacked by the medical establishment for connecting diet with disease and mental health in his 1917 book Dietetics. Dr. Clymer received his medical degree in 1902 from the College of Medicine and Surgery in Chicago and began practicing Osteopathy. Accusations of fraud surround Dr. Clymer’s career, including this 1923 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association which claims that, “Our records fail to show that this man was ever regularly graduated by any reputable medical college.” What Clymer had to say more than likely had something to do with the denouncement that he received from the medical establishment.

Though Dr. Clymer may be surrounded with controversy, his 1958 book Your Health and Sanity in the Age of Treason exposes toxic food additives and fluoride with documentation – the majority of which are mainstream scientific studies – that can be verified many times over. What makes this book unique is the fact that Dr. Clymer was one of the first to point out that statements by the elite indicated that these toxins were to be deliberately released “…for the mental deterioration and moral debasement of the mass…”

The book is appropriately subtitled; “Food and Liquids Used as a Medium in Deliberately and Carefully Planned Methods Developed by the Vicious Element of Humanity, for the Mental Deterioration and Moral Debasement of the Mass, as a Means Toward Their Enslavement.”

Blackwater founder Erik Prince takes ‘break from America’ in his new home — Abu Dhabi

    (Michigan Live) August 19, 2010

“Blackwater founder and Holland native Erik Prince has moved to Abu Dhabi, according to court documents.

Prince last year severed ties with the security firm, which had long been the public face of controversy over the military’s use of private defense contractors. He later put the company up for sale. Now, the separation is a bit more physical.

According to a New York Times report:

Current and former colleagues said Mr. Prince hoped to focus on security work from governments in Africa and the Middle East. They also said he was bitter about the legal scrutiny and negative publicity his company had received.”He needs a break from America,” said one colleague, speaking only on the condition of anonymity about Mr. Prince’s long-rumored move.

While Prince himself does not face criminal charges, prosecution looms for other Blackwater executives, guards and affiliates on weapons, conspiracy, obstruction and murder for various incidents. Most notoriously, five Blackwater guards were investigated for the shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians in 2007.

Meanwhile, the company, now called Xe, continues to land lucrative government contracts.

News of Prince’s move came from a court filing last week in a civil lawsuit that accused him of defrauding the government, and, according to the Times, Prince hoped to avoid giving a deposition because of his new residence.”

HR 1553 Authorizing ‘Use of Force’ Against Iran is Based on Pure Propaganda

    Activist Post August 19, 2010

“America has not officially declared war on a nation since World War II. Yet we are now entangled in endless wars with no feasible goals, except sustained military profits and resource grabs. Instead, we vote to “authorize the use of force” just in case we may need it, which strategically limits the public debate. Although many believe that the stiff Iran sanctions detailed in HR 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act was an Act of War, the proposed HR 1553 is the actual “authorization of the use of force.”

HR 1553: Expressing support for the State of Israel’s right to defend Israeli sovereignty, to protect the lives and safety of the Israeli people, and to use all means necessary to confront and eliminate nuclear threats posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the use of military force if no other peaceful solution can be found within reasonable time to protect against such an immediate and existential threat to the State of Israel.”

Walgreens announces flu shot gift card; give the “gift” of a vaccine (opinion)

    (NaturalNews) August 19, 2010

“Summer isn’t even over yet and the big push for the mass vaccination of the entire population is already under way. The CDC started the push by recently urging vaccine shots for everyone — including infants, pregnant women and immune-compromised people. Adding to the vaccination hoopla, Walgreens has announced something quite bizarre: A flu shot gift card.

Available for $29.99 at your nearest Walgreens retailer, this gift card is, as Walgreens explains on their website, “a way to help more Americans stay well throughout the upcoming flu season by giving the gift of a flu shot.”

See a full-size picture of this flu shot gift card right here: http://www.naturalnews.com/images/W…

Of course, if you gave your friends the gift of vitamin D supplements, they wouldn’t need a flu shot or a jab in the arm with a sharp needle. Vitamin D has been proven again and again to work better than vaccines at preventing influenza (http://www.naturalnews.com/027385_V…), yet it remains all but ignored by the conventional medical establishment which just happens to be dominated by the financial interests of vaccine manufacturers (pharma companies).”

    Return of the BP Cover-Up

Kate Sheppard Mother Jones August 19, 2010

“Earlier this month, the federal government claimed that three-quarters of the oil in the Gulf had magically disappeared. But as I reported Wednesday, the federal government has so far refused to provide congressional investigators and the media with the numbers to support that claim. Now, it looks like the official report, with all the data and substantiating material, won’t be released for months.

On Wednesday afternoon, during a telephone briefing on the spill for congressional staffers, NOAA scientists said the data might not be available for at least two months. The full report is in the “process of being written,” according to NOAA, but it won’t be made available for “around a couple months.” The delay, NOAA representatives said, is so the report “can be peer reviewed.”

This, of course, raises the question of why the initial report was even released on Aug. 4 if it hadn’t been peer reviewed and couldn’t be substantiated with data, methodology, and full disclosure of the kind of assumptions that went into reaching this conclusion. The explanation of why the report was released by the National Incident Command and touted by administration officials seemed to indicate that the White House may have jumped the gun on releasing the initial report before the entire documentation was available.”

5 Trillion More Dollars To Fix Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac?

(The Economic Collapse Blog) August 19, 2010

“Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have become gigantic financial black holes that the U.S. government endlessly pours massive quantities of money into. Unfortunately, if the U.S. government did allow Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to totally implode, both the mortgage industry and the housing industry in the United States would completely collapse. So essentially the U.S. government finds itself between a rock and a hard place. Prior to the financial crisis of the last few years, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were profit-seeking private corporations that also had a government-chartered mission of expanding home ownership in America. But now that they have been officially taken over by the U.S. government, they have become gigantic bottomless money pits. It is hard to even describe just how much of a mess Fannie and Freddie are in. However, the unprecedented intervention by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the mortgage market over the past couple of years has been about the only thing that has kept it from plunging into absolute chaos. So what does the future hold for Fannie Mae and for Freddie Mac? Well, according to one estimate, it could take another 5 trillion dollars to “fix” Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac.

Yes, you read the correctly. According to an article in the Christian Science Monitor, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are facing $5 trillion dollars in liabilities that the federal government is going to have to deal with one way or another….”

Study: Nearly one million children in U.S. potentially misdiagnosed with ADHD

    Science Daily August 19, 2010

“Nearly 1 million children in the United States are potentially misdiagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder simply because they are the youngest — and most immature — in their kindergarten class, according to new research by a Michigan State University economist.

These children are significantly more likely than their older classmates to be prescribed behavior-modifying stimulants such as Ritalin, said Todd Elder, whose study will appear in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Health Economics.

Such inappropriate treatment is particularly worrisome because of the unknown impacts of long-term stimulant use on children’s health, Elder said. It also wastes an estimated $320 million-$500 million a year on unnecessary medication — some $80 million-$90 million of it paid by Medicaid, he said.

Elder said the “smoking gun” of the study is that ADHD diagnoses depend on a child’s age relative to classmates and the teacher’s perceptions of whether the child has symptoms.

“If a child is behaving poorly, if he’s inattentive, if he can’t sit still, it may simply be because he’s 5 and the other kids are 6,” said Elder, assistant professor of economics. “There’s a big difference between a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old, and teachers and medical practitioners need to take that into account when evaluating whether children have ADHD.”

Five Absurd Things That Simply Can’t Happen in Wartime Washington

    Tom Engelhardt Tom’s Dispatch August 18, 2010

“The other day I visited a website I check regularly for all things military, Noah Shachtman’s Danger Room blog at Wired magazine. One of its correspondents, Spencer Ackerman, was just then at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, the sort of place that — with its multiple bus routes, more than 30,000 inhabitants, PXes, Internet cafés, fast-food restaurants, barracks, and all the sinews of war — we like to call military bases, but that are unique in the history of this planet.

Here’s how Ackerman began his report: “Anyone who thinks the United States is really going to withdraw from Afghanistan in July 2011 needs to come to this giant air base an hour away from Kabul. There’s construction everywhere. It’s exactly what you wouldn’t expect from a transient presence.” The old Russian base, long a hub for U.S. military (and imprisonment) activities in that country is now, as he describes it, a giant construction site and its main drag, Disney Drive, a massive traffic pile-up. (“If the Navy could figure out a way to bring a littoral-combat ship to a landlocked country, it would idle on Disney.”) Its flight line is packed with planes — “C-17s, Predators, F-16s, F-15s, MC-12 passenger planes” — and Bagram, he concludes, “is starting to feel like a dynamic exurb before the housing bubble burst.”

I won’t lie. As I read that post, my heart sank and I found myself imagining Spencer Ackerman writing this passage: “Anyone who thinks the United States is really going to stay in Afghanistan after July 2011 needs to come to this giant air base an hour away from Kabul where buildings are being dismantled, military equipment packed up, and everywhere you look you see evidence of a transient presence.” To pen that, unfortunately, he would have to be a novelist or a fabulist.”

The Purpose Behind Engineered Economic Collapse

By Giordano Bruno Neithercorp Press – 08/17/2010

“From now on, depressions will be scientifically created.” — Congressman Charles A. Lindbergh Sr. , 1913

“Everyone loves money. Even people like myself who abhor the abuse of money and commerce, who understand the fraudulent nature of the system we live in, still work hard and save so that we might attain a sense of stability within that system. Many people see money as a focal point to their existence. But is it really money that they are after, or is it something else entirely? In truth, money represents ‘security’ in the minds of the masses. Money affords us the ability to survive, and the more of it we have, the safer we all feel. Because we subconsciously associate the extension of our very life with the variable health of the economic structure in which we live, we tend to become unwitting devotees to its continued existence, even if it is corrupt and condemned to failure. We gullibly deny the system or the currency that supports it is doomed to the contrary of all evidence because, even though it has beaten us bloody, we have never known anything else.

In light of this entrenched way of perceiving things, especially in the U.S., it is difficult enough to convince some people that the economy is in fact not providing the security they desire, but is actually destroying their future completely. To explain to them that this is deliberate, that the economy is designed to self-destruct, that is another prospect altogether.”

That did not actually happen, but what MERS did allow was the securitization and shuffling around of mortgages behind a veil of anonymity. The result was not only to cheat local governments out of their recording fees but to defeat the purpose of the recording laws, which was to guarantee purchasers clean title. Worse, MERS facilitated an explosion of predatory lending in which lenders could not be held to account because they could not be identified, either by the preyed-upon borrowers or by the investors seduced into buying bundles of worthless mortgages. As alleged in a Nevada class action called Lopez vs. Executive Trustee Services, et al.: Before MERS, it would not have been possible for mortgages with no market value . . . to be sold at a profit or collateralized and sold as mortgage-backed securities. Before MERS, it would not have been possible for the Defendant banks and AIG to conceal from government regulators the extent of risk of financial losses those entities faced from the predatory origination of residential loans and the fraudulent re-sale and securitization of those otherwise non-marketable loans. Before MERS, the actual beneficiary of every Deed of Trust on every parcel in the United States and the State of Nevada could be readily ascertained by merely reviewing the public records at the local recorder’s office where documents reflecting any ownership interest in real property are kept…. After MERS, . . . the servicing rights were transferred after the origination of the loan to an entity so large that communication with the servicer became difficult if not impossible …. The servicer was interested in only one thing – making a profit from the foreclosure of the borrower’s residence – so that the entire predatory cycle of fraudulent origination, resale, and securitization of yet another predatory loan could occur again. This is the legacy of MERS, and the entire scheme was predicated upon the fraudulent designation of MERS as the ‘beneficiary’ under millions of deeds of trust in Nevada and other states. “I have often written about the US Treasury and US Mint’s very strange behavior when it comes to their part in continuing “business as usual” for the fiat monetary system. Although many have chalked up the Mint’s rationing of Gold and Silver American Eagle coins to normal behavior of inept government employees and government bureaucracy, I have a much different take on the subject. I believe they are trying to DELAY and LIMIT the American Eagle program until such time as the US is ready to go back on a gold and silver standard.

To understand this objective it helps to go back to a very important moment in our monetary past…

It was March of 1982 when Reagan’s Gold Commission released their final report on the “Role of Gold in the Domestic and International Monetary Systems”. The truth behind America’s ‘civilian militias’

    (London Telegraph) August 19, 2010

“In heavy camouflage gear, Johnny Cochran squats down and shuffles noiselessly along the ground. His target is a large man who, like Cochran, is in military fatigues. Seconds later, Cochran leaps up and stabs the man once, hard, in the neck. The movement is swift, and would almost certainly be lethal, were it not for the fact that the ‘weapon’ Cochran is wielding is a pen.

The scenario I have just witnessed may be simulated, but its protagonists are deadly serious. This is a ‘close combat training’ session given by ‘Fireteam Diamondback’ – an armed militia group, or civilian ‘army’, based in west Texas, in the United States. Cochran, a chain-smoking 39 year-old with a handlebar moustache and goatee whose T-shirt reads: ‘Disgruntled Combat Vet – Right Wing Extremist’, is their leader. Biro-wielding or not, he’s not someone you would wish to encounter in combat.

‘Straight into the base of his skull,’ he says, after pretending to plunge the pen into the neck of Steven Page, a member of another militia group who has joined the training. ‘That’s the nerve centre. Then you push forward. If you’re dealing with someone short, that works like a charm, but if you’re dealing with someone tall, grab his face, insert the knife and when you shove that knife forwards, pull him towards you.’

Cochran smiles. ‘You’re going to make a hell of a mess, but human flesh tears easily. Bone is a pain in the a–.’ He knows what he’s talking about, having served four years as a combat medic with the US Marines during Operation Desert Storm. His ‘handle’, or nickname, in the militia is ‘Doc’. And yet, as he freely admits, the hypothetical enemy – the target he’s teaching the people gathered here today to kill – is a US soldier.”

“The scheduled court-martial of SSgt Frank Wuterich and the aborted trial of former Illinois governor Rod R. Blagojevich don’t seem to have much in common at first glance.

Blagojevich is a grasping Illinois politician with a bouffant hairdo prone to blabbing. Wuterich is a hardcore, quiet Marine who wears his hair high and tight. Both however are charged with crimes simple in name and so complex in character it is hard to understand exactly what crimes they are charged with committing, much less why.

The notion comes, from all places, a New York Times report about jurors being confused about what the defendant was charged with, how to determine his guilt, and exactly what the erstwhile governor’s motives were. According to today’s electronic Times, “Jurors said it took them several days just to figure out how to begin to break down their assignment into manageable tasks — not to mention how to understand the legal terminology… “

It sounded familiar. Wuterich has at various times been charged with a variety of heinous crimes. Originally he was charged with murder, lying, and conspiring to cover up the incident. It seems useful to list them as the Marine Corps made them on Dec. 21, 2006…. And no, “2006” is not a typo!”

“The Constitution requires the “advice and consent of the Senate” on certain presidential appointments.

Not all, mind you, just some, such as ambassadors and public ministers whom the Congress has not actively exempted from the requirement. This is fortunate for the busy Senate, since our overgrown executive branch now employs about two million civilians across some 1300 federal agencies.

The Constitution allows most of these aptly-named “inferior officers” to be appointed without Congressional vetting. Since Congress has the Constitutional right to decide which roles require Senate approval, a really active role in executive personnel management could utterly paralyze that body (which wouldn’t be all bad, when you think about it, considering how much more inferior many of our Senators are nowadays).

The President took advantage of the Congressional campaign season – sorry, the August recess – to make a few recess appointments of nominees whom the Senate had not yet approved.

Before just accepting that fact at face value – and to be fair, we should remember that Presidents of both parties have used this tool – we should consider whether this step was ever the intention of the Framers at all.

Shortly thereafter, the BLM arrived at Hage’s ranch to perform a seizure. The Sheriff’s Deputy told the federal agents that there would be no seizure or taking of cattle, per DeMeo’s decision based on the Constitution. Sheriff DeMeo advised the federal agent that their SWAT team would be faced with Sheriff DeMeo’s SWAT team if they proceeded.

Sheriff DeMeo clearly stated that he refused any unlawful seizures on Wayne Hage’s estate. He further advised federal agents that if they could produce a lawful court order for seizing cattle, he would not take the cattle off of the land, but impound them there on Hage’s ranch. This is important because if seized cattle were to remain impounded on Hage’s ranch, then Wayne Hage could still show ‘beneficial use’ of his water rights.

“Grim new jobs report dealt a serious blow to efforts by the White House to convince voters ahead of the November elections that the president’s economic recovery plans were working.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits increased by 12,000 to 500,000 last week, taking economists and the White House by surprise.

President Obama, on his way to a 10-day vacation with his family on Martha’s Vineyard, said the report underscores the need for Congress to act on a bill helping small business.

“There will be plenty of time between now and November to play politics, but the small-business owners I met with this week, the ones that I’ve met with across the country this year, they don’t have time for political games.” Obama said. “They’re not interested in what’s best for a political party, they’re interested in what’s best for the country.”

Procedural tussles and bickering have held up the bill in the Senate, where the measure is expected to come back for a vote when Congress returns from recess next month.

Obama has touted the bill as a jobs package, noting that small businesses account for a significant percentage of jobs in America and need the tax breaks and other incentives to start hiring again.

But Republicans seized on the jobless claims, calling the latest report further proof that Obama’s economic policies aren’t working.

“Gentle readers, it’s time to set the wayback machine to May 12th in the year 2008, where we read the following in a New York Times op-ed page piece written by historian Edward N. Luttwak, of the Center for Strategic and
    International Studies.

In Islam, however, there is no such thing as a half-Muslim. Like all monotheistic religions, Islam is an exclusive faith. As the son of the Muslim father, Senator Obama was born a Muslim under Muslim law as it is universally understood. It makes no difference that, as Senator Obama has written, his father said he renounced his religion. Likewise, under Muslim law based on the Koran his mother’s Christian background is irrelevant.

Of course, as most Americans understand it, Senator Obama is not a Muslim. He chose to become a Christian, and indeed has written convincingly to explain how he arrived at his choice and how important his Christian faith is to him. His conversion, however, was a crime in Muslim eyes; it is “irtidad” or “ridda,” usually translated from the Arabic as “apostasy,” but with connotations of rebellion and treason. Indeed, it is the worst of all crimes that a Muslim can commit, worse than murder (which the victim’s family may choose to forgive).

This drew a fierce response from Clark Hoyt, the Times public editor. He said this information was totally, totally, totally wrong and the newspaper should not have printed it.”

“A few weeks ago, I came across an article in the Atlantic Monthly magazine, which bore the extraordinary title “Did Christianity Cause the Crash?”

I realize that much of the mainstream media is ready to blame Christianity for almost every societal ill, but this seemed a bit much. As I read through the article, it became plain that the culprit, in the author’s mind, is the so-called “prosperity Gospel,” the view propagated by quite a few extremely popular evangelists that material prosperity flows from the depth and quality of one’s faith in God. His argument was that the willingness on the part of many Christians to risk their savings on questionable investments conduced toward the bursting of the housing bubble and the subsequent economic meltdown. Well, I’m not sure that that particular argument carries much weight, but I’ll confess that the article piqued my interest in this influential theology.”

    Hannity, Obama’s Muslim Friendly Behavior

“Is President Barak Obama a practicing Muslim in secret or is he a Christian that he says he is?

From what I am seeing, I even have that question myself. If President Barak Obama says he is a Christian, why does he not look for a local Christian church community for fellow purposes? Also so both he and First Lady Michelle Obama can set a GOOD EXAMPLE to both their two daughters. Plus also why is he bending over backwards for the Muslim community? There is just simply too many questions to ask here in this brief blog article.

It would though be nice if President Obama reaches out to Christians, say those who are members of a Greek Orthodox church that still has not be rebuilt as of yet and had a major setback this week with talks having broken down this week with NYC Port Authority people.

I hope you don’t mind this posting?

    In the ‘Olden Days”

I sure do remember how much I loved getting into bed when the sheets were just washed & dried
on the line. I loved the cool crispness & clean smell. I really miss that. They sure can’t make a
fabric softener that even comes close to that smell.

You have to be a certain age to appreciate this. I can hear my mother now….
(if you don’ t know what clotheslines are, better skip this)

    1. You had to wash the clothes line before hanging any clothes-
walk the entire lengths of each line with a damp cloth around the lines.

    2. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order, and always hang “whites”
with “whites,” and hang them first.

    3. You never hung a shirt by the shoulders – always by the tail!
    What would the neighbors think?

    4. Wash day on a Monday! . . . Never hang clothes on the weekend, or
    Sunday, for Heaven’ s sake!

    5. Hang the sheets and towels on the outside lines so you could hide your
“unmentionables” in the middle (perverts & busybodies, y’ know!)

    6. It didn’ t matter if it was sub zero weather . . . Clothes would

    7. Always gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes! Pins left
    on the lines were “tacky!”

    8. If you were efficient, you would line the clothes up so that each item did
not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the next
    washed item.

    9. Clothes off the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes
basket, and ready to be ironed.

    10. IRONED?! Well, that ‘ s a whole other subject!

    A POEM

A clothesline was a news forecast
    To neighbors passing by.
There were no secrets you could keep
When clothes were hung to dry.
It also was a friendly link
    For neighbors always knew
If company had stopped on by
To spend a night or two.
For then you’ d see the “fancy sheets”
    And towels upon the line;
You’ d see the “company table cloths”
    With intricate designs.
The line announced a baby’ s birth
From folks who lived inside –
As brand new infant clothes were hung,
    So carefully with pride!
The ages of the children could
    So readily be known
By watching how the sizes changed,
You’ d know how much they’ d grown!
It also told when illness struck,
    As extra sheets were hung;
Then nightclothes, and a bathrobe, too,
    Haphazardly were strung.
It also said, “Gone on vacation now”
When lines hung limp and bare.
It told, “We ‘ re back!” when full lines sagged
With not an inch to spare!

New folks in town were scorned upon
If wash was dingy and gray,
As neighbors carefully raised their brows,
And looked the other way . . …

But clotheslines now are of the past,
For dryers make work much less.
Now what goes on inside a home
    Is anybody’ s guess!

I really miss that way of life.
    It was a friendly sign
When neighbors knew each other best
By what hung on the line!
